Kayak Event: Bushwacker Challenge 150 – May 16-21, 2009

Plan ahead to take part in Michigan’s 2nd Annual Bushwacker Challenge 150

Thanks to Mike Anderson for sending us the event info:

When: May 16 – 21, 2009

What: 2nd annual Bushwhacker Challenge, 150 miles of expedition style paddling.

There is also a 10 mile sprint and a 40 mile cruise if the 150 is not your cup of tea

Where: The race is a closed circuit loop. 85 miles on the Pine River and 65 miles on the Chippewa River. The 65 miles on the Chippewa are all up river. Plus there is a 7 mile portage to get back to the Pine River.

Why: All proceeds go to the Verlen Kruger Memorial

How: Go to www.verlenkrugermemorial.org for more event details, registration information and last year’s results.

“Many could not even finish the race last year. It was a great time and I have memories that will last a lifetime.”

Sounds like a great kayak and paddle event! If you go, let us know. Send us a race/event report via our contact form and we may post it right here – or just leave a comment on this post.

New Product Profile: Completely Clear Kayak Enhances Paddle Experience

Clear Blue Hawaii Crystal Clear KayakA clear kayak made from a durable polycarbonate material is an awesome ride for recreational kayakers.

The two-seater kayak, a Clear Blue Hawaii Molokini Two Passenger Transparent Ocean Kayak, is completely transparent allowing the paddler to see deep down into the water below.

I can definitely see the benefits when sea kayaking in Hawaii, the Caribbean or other tropical waters. Even in certain clear or mostly clear running rivers – it would be great for fishing since you could see exactly where your prey is hiding!

The high quality materials have been impact tested – including intense crashing against rocky shorelines, 20 ft drops, hammer blows and an ejection from a vehicle at 70mph. We assume the boat emerged from these test unscathed.

Transportation and storage of this futuristic kayak is made easy because of the anodized aluminum internal frame system. Basically, it’s collapsible – coming from someone who stores her kayak in the living room, that’s a plus in my book.

There was only one review so far on Amazon where the kayak is available for a mere $1,799, and that buyer loved it. I can imagine it would be great for kids – of all ages!
