Looking to kayak 105 miles?

Then you need to sign up for the Great Hudson River Paddle in New York.

This is an eight day 105 mile kayaking and camping trip from Albany to Peekskill, N.Y. This event will be held Thursday, July 29 to Thursday, August 5, 2010.

According to their website:

This paddle is designed for kayakers of varied skill levels. You can sign up to paddle the entire 105 miles or paddle a portion of it.

You can sign up to be a thru-paddler (paddling the entire 105 miles), a getaway-paddler (paddling three or more days) or day-paddler (paddling for a day).

Kayakers will be camping out in state and local parks along the way or staying at a Hyde Park Inn.  Paddlers will also have an opportunity to visit heritage and cultural sites in local communities.

This Great Hudson River Paddle is being held to celebrate the 256 mile long Hudson River Greenway Water Trail, the improvement of public access to the Hudson River and the Champlain Canal, and the diversity and heritage of the riverside communities of the Hudson River Valley.

Kayaking & Canoeing in Minnesota

If you’re looking for a challenging place to paddle your kayak or canoe, then you need to check out the Mississippi River Challenge in Minnesota.

The Mississippi River Challenge is a 44-mile, 2-day paddling event on Saturday & Sunday, July 24th & 25th, 2010.

According to their website:

This event is run by the Friends of the Mississippi River. All funds raised goes toward protecting and conserving the Mississippi River in and around the Twin Cities.

Each paddler is required to raise a minimum of $250 in pledges to participate in this event. ($50 pledge for 16-18 year olds and no minimum pledge amount for 15 and under)

You can paddle one or two days. Each day the paddle is 22 miles.

 Paddle your kayak or canoe.

Paddle solo or with a partner.

There will be overnight camping available at the Historic Fort Snelling.

Paddle through three locks.

This paddling event is from the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park in the North Metro to Grey Cloud Island, South of St Paul.

Paddlers of all skill and experience levels have paddled this challenge. Most paddlers set their own speed.
