According to their website:

The Nelson Downriver race is intended for anyone interested in canoe or kayak racing – from novices to national champions.

 This is an 8 mile race through Class I to Class II+ rapids on the Tye River.

Start: Rt. 662 alongside the Tye River

Finish: Confluence of Tye River and Rucker’s Run

Important Notice: Depending upon water conditions, some rapids on this section of the Tye River can approach class III. Beginners should not attempt this run.

According to their website:

The race length is 6.5 miles.

The race starts at Little Rock’s Murray Park.

You will pass North Little Rock’s Emerald Park Cliffs on your left with the State Capital and downtown Little Rock on your right. You will paddle under 5 bridges and finish on the North Little Rock side at the Arkansas Boathouse Rowing club.

There are many racing categories for kayaks and canoes.

Here is an event that was sent to us:

 The 6th annual Shark Bite Challenge April 17-18, 2010.

Honeymoon Island State Park, Dunedin, Florida

This event is part of the Island Earth Days Festival.

The Shark Bite Challenge is a 2 day event for outriggers, surfskis, paddleboards, and kayaks.

 The 6-man outrigger regatta race is scheduled for Saturday.

The OC-1, Surfski, Paddleboard, and Kayak race is scheduled for Sunday.

The Shark Bite Challenge includes a 4 mile recreational and 8 mile competitive race for canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards.  
This event sounds like it would be fun for the whole family.
