Chum Festival Kayak Race & Donkey Creek Chum Festival – Washington State Paddle Event

Chum Festival Kayak Race & Donkey Creek Chum Festival - Gig Harbor, Washington Chum Festival Kayak Race & Donkey Creek Chum Festival – Gig Harbor, Washington – Oct 16!

Since 1972, the Gig Harbor Commercial Fishermen’s Club has incubated salmon eggs at Donkey Creek, releasing over 1 million fry into Gig Harbor Bay each year. Every fall, mature salmon find their way from the open sea back to Austin Estuary; fighting their way up the culvert into Donkey Creek to spawn.

In celebration of this annual event local environmental groups and fish enhancement advocates have joined hands to promote a better understanding of and improve the conditions for our salmon and watersheds.

This year’s fourth annual event will be Saturday, October 16th. Booths, Kayak Races, Chum Burgers, Refreshments, “Paint Your Own Salmon” t-shirts, and the giant FIN salmon are just some of the activities that will be a part of the event again in 2010.
