New Charles City, Iowa Whitewater Kayak Park added to our Directory

The new Charles City, IA whitewater park is open for business!

Construction started back in December of 2010. The park was completed and opened for Iowa’s white water lovers this past July.

Charles City Whitewater Park is one of the top five Whitewater courses in the US and the only white water play area in Iowa! The park is more than just some rocks in the water. This development beautifies the riverfront and includes an amphitheater, storm water play area, and a boat launch area.

Congrats Charles City, IA!

The Nelson Downriver race is intended for anyone interested in canoe or kayak racing – from novices to national champions.

 This is an 8 mile race through Class I to Class II+ rapids on the Tye River.

Start: Rt. 662 alongside the Tye River

Finish: Confluence of Tye River and Rucker’s Run

Important Notice: Depending upon water conditions, some rapids on this section of the Tye River can approach class III. Beginners should not attempt this run.

According to their website:

The race length is 6.5 miles.

The race starts at Little Rock’s Murray Park.

You will pass North Little Rock’s Emerald Park Cliffs on your left with the State Capital and downtown Little Rock on your right. You will paddle under 5 bridges and finish on the North Little Rock side at the Arkansas Boathouse Rowing club.

There are many racing categories for kayaks and canoes.
